The Sarnia Paperweight Pacers traveled to Kitchener this past weekend, and played in the Ruth Dietrich Invitational. This was the Paperweights first ever lacrosse tournament, and you could definitely feel the buzz in the air! The Pacers ended up with two wins, and two losses.
The Paperweights opened the tournament Saturday morning with a heartbreaking 9-8 loss to the Cambridge Chiefs. Abbi Williamson was a wall in net, and kept the game close. The Pacers tied it up with 15 seconds left, only to see the Chiefs score as time expired. Dane Mainland led the way with 4 goals, Brayer Vanderburgt had 3, and Brock Manders chipped in with 1.
Next up for the Pacers was a game against a tough Guelph Royals team. This was yet again a back and forth affair, but Guelph ended up pulling away with a 9-6 victory.
Sunday morning the Pacers played the Newmarket Redbirds, and gave all the Dad’s a Father’s Day present they will never forget. They recorded their first win of the season 8-5. Leading the way was Brayer Vanderburgt with 3, Brock Manders and Dane Mainland each had 2 and Alton Tedball added 1.
In the final game the Pacers stole the show, and won convincingly against The Pelham Raiders. Still riding the momentum from their first victory of the season, the kids hit the floor hard and never looked back. They ended up with a BIG 13-0 win. Abbi Williamson was perfect in net, and picked up her first shut-out of the season. Brayer Vangerburgt paced the offence with 6 goals, Brock Manders and Dane Mainland each had 2 goals, Alton Tedball, Trent Hogan and Madison Maness each added singles.
The Paperweights look to make it three straight, and play host to The London Blue Devils on Thursday night at 7:00pm.
