U5 Fundamentals (3 & 4 year old Soft Lacrosse)
The Fundamental U5 program is developmental. The focus is to introduce the child and parent to lacrosse. There is a high emphasis on participation and enjoyment, and a low emphasis on skill performance. The sessions will cover basic lacrosse skills, integrated with activities to develop coordination, movement, balance, running, etc. We present a non-threatening environment where mistakes during learning are encouraged, with every child learning at their own pace. Please remember to be patient with your child’s progress. The large floor/arena can be very intimidating for children…a young child walking onto the arena floor is similar to an adult walking onto the field at the Sky Dome.

The equipment requirements are a helmet/face cage, lacrosse gloves, and lacrosse stick. Lacrosse gloves are the best choice, as they provide the flexibility needed to grasp the stick. However, it is understood that it is difficult to find gloves that fit for this age level, and it isn’t necessary to purchase high-end lacrosse gloves they will outgrow in a year. If you do not have gloves, that will not be an issue for the first session. This is a non-contact program, so we can discuss any glove concerns/options on that first night. Sticks do not have to be a high-end expensive stick. An entry level, shorter stick is ideal. One of the best choices is the FiddleStix package. They are generally sold in packages of two. As well, there will be NatureBoy sticks from our 3-X-3 program available to borrow for the session.

This season we will be introducing the NatureBoy lacrosse rubber ball. It is a soft rubber ball, more lively than the SwaxLax, but softer, smaller, and safer than a regulation ball.
